Planet Cybertron is running low on resources that are necessary to maintain life on the planet. All the inhabitants of Cybertron begin traveling through space to find the resources they need, which leads them to earth. This group of travelers are a race of robots that have the ability to transform into other mechanisms. The race of robots are divided into two different groups, the Autobots and the Decepticons. Autobots good, Decepticons bad! Autobots are lead by Optimus Prime, and the Decepticons are lead by Megatron. Optimus Prime good, Megatron bad!
For about two and a half hours I sat in the movie theater at midnight opening night to see what all the Transformers fuss was about. With a group of about twenty friends I sat glued to my seat enjoying every second of the Transformers action. There were tons of comedy, great special effects, a good story, and lots of explosive action (some things could have been left out, but overall good experience). I expected to be entertained and enjoy the movie, but I didn't expect to walk away with an underlying message. Let me quickly share the gospel message I learned from Transformers.
As I shared above, the whole point in the movie is the battle against Optimus Prime and the good guys against Megatron and the bad guys. However one thing that makes the story interesting is the fact that they all need the same thing, resources to live. In the climax of the battle Megatron wants to destroy human life and take over earth in order to make that their new home so that they can live. His reasoning is that the human race are corrupt and aren't worth saving, but Optimus Prime says he still sees hope in them. Optimus Prime was willing to do whatever necessary to save the human race. At one point in the movie he was even willing to let one of his own Autobots die for the cause of saving the humans. So what am I getting at? Keep reading.
Some of you can already see the point to my message here. Just like Optimus Prime was willing to sacrifice to save a "corrupt" planet simply because he could still see hope, Jesus Christ came to save us even though we too were corrupt in our sin. Romans 5:8 says God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. I was reminded of that fact once again as Optimus Prime was making this great sacrifice for people that wasn't even of his kind, and for those who seemingly didn't matter. Even when we were in the middle of our sins Christ came and sacrificed himself for us. Even though were were still sinners, Christ died not for who we were, but for who we could be.
It's amazing how packed that theater was and how many people were taking in that very same message and didn't even know it. For the next few months people are going to be talking about this truly awesome movie. Maybe in your conversation by the water cooler or by the lockers you can some how share the gospel message of the Transformers. Romans 10:13-15 says 13Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. 14How then can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? 15And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, how beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news.
Sure everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. But how are they going to know if you don't tell them? How can they believe if they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? Man, that's good stuff! Even if it's a simple conversation of Transformers, use that to tell them the good news! Tell them about the Gopsel According to the Transformers!
