Have you ever had the dream where you find yourself in a public place and everyone is staring and laughing? Your not sure why everyone is looking at you and laughing, then you finally realize they are laughing because you are naked!
The most common time that people have this dream is when they are starting something new for the first time. One very common instance is when a teenager is starting high school for the first time. They are so nervous about what people are going to think of them and if they will fit in or not, that when they go to sleep the night before the big day they dream that they have come to class in the buff!
Adults don't escape this dream either. It is very common for an adult that is going to be making a public presentation or starting a new job to dream this very dream. They too are nervous about the new experience to come and find themselves trapped nude in the dream world!
The reason this dream is common is because in a sense this brings us to a place where we are facing our greatest fear. Nakedness is the most private thing that an individual can possess. No one wants to be exposed to the public in such a way. Think of it this way, what is the advice you are given when you are in front of a large crowd? "Just imagine everyone naked or in their underwear." Why is that supposed to make you more confident? Because everyone else is at their most vulnerable state.
To be exposed in such a way is probably not something we really have to worry about... or is it? Psalm 139 reminds us that God knows everything about us. It says, O Lord, you have searched me and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.
That is only the first 3 verses of that chapter. Verse 4 says He even knows what we are going to say before we say it. God sees and knows EVERYHING! As scary as it would be to be found in our most vulnerable state in front of a large group of strangers, it's even scarier to think that you can't hide anything from God.
So... There is one of two ways you can apply this to your life right now. 1 It's awesome that God can see the way I am living my life for Him. Or 2 I am so embarrassed of what God has been watching me do. If you answered number two, then it might be time to make a change! If you need some help and direction in making that change, please let me know, I would love to help.
So remember that the fear of being naked in a crowd is actually an everyday reality with God. He sees all and knows all.
Make Him Proud!
