Brad Pitt was recently interviewed about his faith by Parade Magazine, and was also featured on the front cover with quotes, "I Won't Betray My Beliefs." My attention was sparked by the passion and commitment that Brad seemed to hold for his faith. I want to share with you the quotes from the interview and ask you the question, do you agree with Brad Pitt?
"In high school, I had a crisis of faith. I'd go to Christian revivals and be moved by the Holy Spirit, and I'd go to rock concerts and feel the same fervor. Then I'd be told, 'That's the Devils music! Don't partake in that!' I wanted to experience things religion said not to experience."
"Religion works. I know there's comfort there, a crash pad. It's something to explain the world and tell you there is something bigger than you, and it is going to be all right in the end."
"What's important to me is that I've defined my beliefs and lived according to them and not betrayed them. One of those is my belief in family. I still have faith in that."
Also, in an interview with US Magazine, Brad said "I didn't understand this idea of a God who says, 'You have to acknowledge me. You have to say that I'm the best, and then I'll give you eternal happiness. If you won't, then you don't get it!' It seemed to be about ego. I can't see God operating from ego, so it made no sense to me."
Alright class, let's recap what Brad has taught us...
1. The Holy Spirit and Rock concerts seemed to be the same.
2. Religion Works.
3. Religion is a Crash Pad.
4. Religion is just something to explain existence.
5. It's going to be alright in the end.
6. What's important is my beliefs.
7. God is egotistical and makes no sense to me.
After looking over these key points from Brad's view and conviction of faith, do you agree with Brad Pitt? I would love to know your opinion and encourage you to email your thoughts and reasons to info@brandonmatthews.com Maybe your wondering my thoughts, well here they are...
I believe that Brad has been deceived by the enemy (Satan). From the beginning Satan used deception to trick Adam and Eve. Satan was able to distort the truth so that Eve would make independent decisions away from God. Satan even tempted Jesus in the desert in Matthew chapter 4. If Satan would be as bold to try to deceive Jesus, what would prevent him from using those tactics on us?
So Brandon what's your point? Here is my point. There are lots of things we can be wrong about it life and get by with it. But this is just an area that leaves no room for mistake. Brad Pitt has been deceived with a personal belief system that he developed on his own and has allowed the enemy to deceive him. In turn, this influential movie star will deceive many who follow him.
I just want to encourage you today to be on guard against the enemy, and don't let him deceive you. 1 Corinthians 10:13 says Temptation is common to us all. Everyone is tempted, however not beyond what we can say not to. If we are tempted, God will provide a way out.
So once again I ask the question, do you agree with Brad Pitt? Why or why not? I would love to hear your thoughts. Email us at info@BrandonMatthews.com
Don't be deceived!
